Since we use palm oil in a number of our private label products, last autumn saw Axfood apply for membership of the RSPO, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. The RSPO works to ensure that palm oil is produced in a more sustainable way.
“It feels great to have been approved as a member of the RSPO. Through our membership, we support those plantations that produce palm oil sustainably,” explains Åsa Domeij, Head of Environmental Affairs at Axfood.
Across Axfood’s Garant products, we have either replaced palm oil with alternatives such as sunflower oil, or we have chosen to buy GreenPalm’s palm oil certificates for the quantity used. By buying these traded certificates, we are supporting the plantations that take a more sustainable approach to palm oil production.
