Organic milk is launched under our private label Garant Eko. The milk will be sold primarily at Willys, Hemköp and Tempo. There will only be a very small price difference between Garant’s organic milk and conventional milk.
“This is a way to make organic milk accessible to more customers,” explains Åsa Domeij, Head of Environmental Affairs at Axfood.
Sales of organic milk have fallen over the past year, which has led to a surplus and to the dairies being forced to sell organically produced milk as conventional. Axfood wants to help reverse that decline.
“Organic milk production has major benefits, both for the environment and for animal welfare,” says Åsa Domeij. “Producers are required not to use any pesticides and artificial fertilisers in the feed production, half the feed must be grown on the farm and the cows are allowed outside more.”
Garant Ekologiska’s milk is produced by the dairy Falköpings Mejeri.
