Product safety

Axfood’s customers have the right to expect that the products they buy are safe; that they will not cause undesirable health problems, allergic reactions or any other kind of injury. It is therefore crucial for Axfood to carefully check that the products can really be trusted. If a product in Axfood’s assortment is identified as unsafe, it must immediately be withdrawn from the market.

GMO

Genetic modification is a relatively new tool and Axfood realises that this technology may be helpful in certain contexts. Axfood does not currently sell any products that contain genetically modified organisms. However, in the event of an enquiry from suppliers, Axfood will carry out an assessment to determine whether the product has a place in its assortment. Axfood itself will not actively push for the addition of genetically modified ingredients in its private label goods. Genetically modified products must be clearly labelled, as it is important that customers are able to make their own informed choices.

Antibiotics

The producers used by Axfood do not give preventive antibiotics to their animals.

Azo food dyes and hypersensitivity

Axfood will not market products that contain azo food dyes that may cause allergic reactions. Where products contain known allergens, Axfood will aim to replace these with non-allergenic substances where possible. If this is not possible, the packaging must clearly indicate the existence of these allergens.

Axfood strives to limit the use of known allergens in its private label products and has signed up to the industry-wide agreement “The food industry and food retailers’ industry guidelines for allergies and other hypersensitivity”.
