Axfood’s aim is to be an environmentally aware company that views environmental issues from a holistic perspective. Environmental work is carried out across the company and concerns all employees. Axfood aims to make it easier for customers to make informed environmental choices and takes an active role in supporting best practice within the food industry.
Environmental objectives and environmental management
Axfood complies with ISO 14001, which means that our environmental work is systematic, with concrete objectives and regular follow-up activities. In practice, the follow-up may lead to changes both to objectives and actions. Environmental coordinators have been appointed in all Axfood’s companies to drive forward practical environment work there. The sustainability programme affects all aspects of Axfood's operations – including products, transport and energy use in warehouses and stores. The programme includes a long list of concrete measures (see pdf to the right).
Environmental policy
Axfood’s environmental policy informs all aspects of the business. The point of departure for Axfood’s policy is the EU’s fundamental principles for how environmental work is to be conducted, namely the precautionary principle and the principles that preventive action should be taken, that environmental damage should as a priority be rectified at source and that the polluter should pay. In terms of policy, management, control and follow-up of environmental work, Axfood works according to the ISO 14001 guidelines.
