Axfood's Garant Såklart private label represents a new way of showing greater consideration for the environment and minimizing environmental impact. The product line includes body care products, household cleaning products and laundry detergent. The brand currently includes 20 products, which are sold in all of Axfood's chains.
Garant Såklart products are gentle to use. They are perfume-free and hypo-allergenic, and therefore bear the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association's label recommending their use. The products also all bear the Nordic Swan ecolabel.
Life cycle analyses
Garant Såklart products are climate-certified, which entails that their climate impact has been reduced and/or compensated. At the primary level, product life cycles are controlled at a detailed level to reduce emissions. These controls cover everything from production and processing of the raw materials to packaging and transport to store shelves. For any remaining parts that cannot be reduced, Garant Såklart products are climate-certified through climate compensation, which is conducted in cooperation with the Tricorona Climate Partner.
Climate compensation
Tricorona Climate Partner is a world leader in developing climate compensation projects in developing countries, with a focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements, such as wind power, small-scale hydro power plants and biomass-fired power plants. Renewable projects such as these prevent the expanded use of fossil fuels and contribute to sustainable development. Compensation is in the form of CDM-registered (Clean Development Mechanism) projects under the UN's Kyoto Protocol, which entails proven climate benefit. The projects are Gold Standard Certified, entailing that they meet further criteria for sustainability and social responsibility.
